Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani congratulated the newly elected head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Khalid Jassim, along with his deputies Moayyad al-Lami and Jabbar Tarad, following their election victory. The syndicate elections took place on Friday, and the results were recognized and celebrated by the Prime Minister on Saturday, who also extended his congratulations to the other members of the syndicate’s council.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani expressed his hopes for the success of the Iraqi journalistic community and the efforts of the journalists’ union. He emphasized the importance of their role in strengthening journalistic practices and meeting the needs of journalists. He highlighted the necessity of working towards consolidating trust in journalism, which he described as a fundamental component of democratic life in Iraq.
The Prime Minister also affirmed the government’s dedication to protecting press freedoms and ensuring citizens’ access to objective and professional journalism. Al-Sudani underscored the commitment to upholding credibility, defending the truth, and supporting the freedoms enshrined in the constitution and the law. He reiterated the state’s readiness to provide all necessary legal and executive support to create the optimal environment for the press and media to operate effectively.
