Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani affirmed the importance of Al-Jumaima border crossing road in facilitating the movement of pilgrims and increasing trade exchange between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Prime Minister’s office highlighted that Al-Sudani launched the executive work for the rehabilitation project of the Samawah (Al-Mamlaha) – Al-Salman District – Al-Jumaima border crossing – Saudi border road in Muthanna Governorate. Spanning 219 km in both directions, this project was launched in the presence of the governor.

Al-Sudani emphasized that the road is a crucial project for the governorate, serving as a vital economic artery for Muthanna and other governorates bordering Saudi Arabia. It is expected to boost and facilitate the movement of travelers, pilgrims, and Umrah performers, while enhancing trade exchange between the two countries. The road is also seen as a significant addition to the local and regional road network, fostering broader partnerships and trade exchanges, which will benefit the development of the governorate.

The Prime Minister noted that the road passes through the Samawah desert, which could create an environment conducive to investments in agriculture, industry, and mining. He pointed out the natural resources and rapid development in Muthanna, acknowledging the Governor of Muthanna’s efforts in overseeing project completion and addressing any implementation challenges.

Al-Sudani also mentioned that the government is focused on improving infrastructure services across all governorates through strategic service projects, tailored to each governorate’s resources and opportunities. The project is under the Ministry of Construction and Housing’s supervision, following specialist-prepared specifications, and includes two lanes in each direction, with six rest stops on both sides of the road.
