Al-Sudani Explores Reviving Kirkuk-Banias Oil Pipeline with Syrian Energy Minister

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with Syrian Energy Minister Mohammed al-Bashir to discuss the potential revival of the Kirkuk-Banias oil pipeline. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Syria, particularly in the energy sector, to benefit both nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister's Media Office released a statement detailing the discussions. A significant topic was the formation of a joint technical committee to assess the current condition of the Kirkuk-Banias oil pipeline and explore rehabilitation options as part of Iraq's strategy to diversify its export outlets.

Additionally, the meeting covered opportunities for collaboration in advancing oil and petrochemical industry projects along the Mediterranean coast. Coordination to tackle climate change and regulate shared water resources in the Euphrates River Basin was also on the agenda.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq's support for Syria's stability and sovereignty, condemning any aggression against it. He emphasized the importance of cooperation to address regional challenges, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The Syrian Minister highlighted the strong bilateral ties between the countries and the potential for collaboration in energy, communications, and mutual investments, particularly the fiber optic cable project from Europe through Syria.
