Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has emphasized the critical role of tourism projects in Baghdad as it prepares to host the Arab Summit and has been named the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from al-Sudani’s media office confirmed the prime minister’s inauguration of the al-Zaytoun Hotel Baghdad /Movenpick/ on Saturday, marking a partial opening of its primary facilities. This development is part of the preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad.

During the event, al-Sudani highlighted that the hotel represents one of the most significant private sector initiatives in the capital’s tourism and hotel industry. He assured the government’s continued support for the private sector, acknowledging its contribution to economic growth and job creation, alongside enhancing the tourism infrastructure required by Baghdad.

Al-Sudani conducted a tour of the hotel’s various amenities, including its corridors, halls, restaurants, lounges, and other tourist facilities. He commended the project’s quality, noting the adherence to timelines despite challenges encountered during its completion.

Reaffirming his commitment, al-Sudani expressed his support for projects that focus on advancing the tourism sector and fulfilling Baghdad’s increasing demand for hotels, resorts, and tourist attractions. He remarked that Baghdad is transforming into a major hub for development and economic activities, poised to become a significant regional and international venue for various events.
