Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired the regular meeting of the Higher Committee for Reconstruction and Investment on Sunday. A statement by the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated that “the meeting was devoted to discussing the economic model adopted for the New Sadr City project, which includes the nature and distribution of buildings and residential units, which number 11,000 in the first phase, as well as commercial areas, green spaces, and the provision of infrastructure.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized “the great importance of the New Sadr City project, as it is one of the government’s plans to address the housing crisis, especially in the capital, Baghdad, which is witnessing a rapid population growth.” Al-Sudani directed that “the project target only the residents of Sadr City, according to the results of the 2024 population census, and that the prices of residential units be subsidized and commensurate with the economic capacity of citizens.”

During the meeting, the issue of the Iraqi Media Network Investment Housing Project, which had been pending for years, was resolved. A decision was made to proceed with its implementation in appreciation of the efforts of the network’s employees and the great sacrifices made since 2003 until today. The Prime Minister directed the acceleration of the issuance of the investment license and the completion of all procedures related to the project.
