Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani received Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani today, Sunday, in the presence of Ziyad Al-Janabi, Head of Parliamentary Integrity Committee. A Parliament statement stated that the meeting discussed the fuel issue and the challenges of providing it to citizens on a regular basis. Other issues related to the energy sector were also reviewed, most notably: the issue of smuggling petroleum products and ways to address it through security and oversight coordination, and the issue of developing the infrastructure of oil facilities and enhancing their production capacities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting also discussed ensuring fairness in the distribution of fuel quotas among governorates, activating investment plans in the field of associated gas to reduce foreign imports, enhancing transparency and combating corruption in Ministry of Oil contracts, and the oil pipeline issue in the Latifiya area, which has caused social and service damage to residents. The meeting also sought to find fair solutions that preserve the rights of residents and achieve the supreme national interest.

Al-Mashhadani stressed the need for the plans implemented by the ministry to be feasible, calling on the Parliamentary Integrity Committee to follow up on the procedures and ensure they serve the citizen. For his part, the Minister of Oil affirmed his ministry’s commitment to providing fuel and continuing expansion and development projects. For his part, the head of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Ziyad al-Janabi, indicated that parliamentary oversight will be present to ensure the work proceeds according to standards of integrity and the public interest.
