Al-Muthanna: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to establish a committee aimed at addressing the demands of farmers in the governorates of Muthanna, Diwaniyah, Najaf, and Karbala.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the directive follows a meeting held on Monday, where Al-Sudani engaged with representatives of farmers and peasants from the specified governorates. The meeting was attended by several representatives and the Prime Minister’s advisor.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani received comprehensive insights into the issues faced by the agricultural community. Key demands included the release of compensation for non-cultivation in 2023, settlement of dues for those impacted by floods and rains, and an increase in the fuel allocation for agricultural pumps and machinery.
In response, Al-Sudani instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to form a committee to address these issues in compliance with legal regulations, with the aim of enhancing the agricultural sector’s development and economic sustainability.
Al-Sudani highlighted the achievements of the current government in supporting the agricultural sector, a critical part of its agenda. This includes providing necessary resources such as sprayers, fertilizers, and loans, as well as purchasing wheat from farmers at subsidized rates of up to 850,000 dinars per ton. Additionally, efforts are being made to ensure sufficient storage capacity for the increased crop production.
