Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has reiterated Iraq’s commitment to maintaining its relationship with the United Nations and continuing the bilateral cooperation programs that have been in place.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a meeting with Mohammed al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Prime Minister al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for the assistance provided by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) over the years. This meeting marked the end of al-Hassan’s mission in Iraq and the conclusion of UNAMI’s work, which has been instrumental since the fall of the dictatorial regime in Iraq.

Al-Sudani, through a statement released by his media office, emphasized that the ongoing relationship with UNAMI and the bilateral cooperation programs will persist. He highlighted that the conclusion of UNAMI’s mission reflects the enhanced performance of Iraqi state institutions in meeting their constitutional and legal duties, thereby reinforcing Iraq’s national sovereignty.

In response, Mohammed al-Hassan praised the advancements made by Iraq over the years under the government’s leadership. He acknowledged the significant progress and reiterated the commitment to continued collaboration with Iraq on various programs moving forward.
