Basra: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has underscored the pivotal role of clerics and preachers in enhancing societal awareness and addressing various challenges in Basra. A statement from his media office indicated that al-Sudani received a delegation of religious scholars and preachers from Basra Governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani highlighted Basra’s cultural and religious significance, emphasizing the responsibility of the preaching pulpit in promoting unity and patriotism. He discussed the government’s dedication to overcoming obstacles in stalled projects within Basra, noting that numerous projects have been completed in collaboration with the local government to enhance service delivery across the governorate.

The Prime Minister also discussed efforts to resolve Basra’s drinking water issues through the Great Seawater Desalination Project. The project, which received an allocation of 5 trillion dinars, is now under the jurisdiction of Basra Governorate, with negotiations underway with international companies for its implementation.

Al-Sudani further addressed the need to implement Cabinet Resolution No. 320 of 2022, focusing on city planning and land use for residential purposes. He also mentioned the strategic “Development Road” and “Grand Faw Port” projects, citing their economic significance and potential to create job opportunities. Additionally, he reiterated the government’s commitment to bolstering industrial activity and resolving housing and employment issues in Basra, particularly for the youth involved in oil refinery operations.
