Baghdad: Head of the Border Ports Authority, Lt. Gen. Dr. Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, today conducted a field visit to Al-Waleed border crossing in Anbar Governorate to review the workflow and follow up on measures to develop the crossing and enhance trade exchange with Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waeli held a meeting with representatives of the government agencies operating at the crossing, discussing obstacles affecting the smooth flow of procedures and ways to address them. He also inspected the infrastructure, truck movement, and the crossing’s operational needs.

On the sidelines of the visit, Al-Waeli met with the head of the Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs, Dr. Qutaiba Badawi. The two sides discussed developing operations at Al-Waleed / Al-Tanf crossing, facilitating the movement of trucks and transit trade, working to resume passenger crossings after completing the necessary requirements, and mechanisms for exporting petroleum products.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination and joint cooperation to enhance cross-border movement and trade exchange between Iraq and Syria.
