Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi received an official invitation to visit Germany, highlighting the European nation as a key economic partner that continues to support Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister's Media Office issued a press release stating that Al-Zaidi engaged in telephone discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The talks focused on bilateral relations and strategies to enhance collaboration across various fields, such as economic, trade, and investment sectors, as well as cooperation on migration issues.

The press release further detailed al-Zaidi's expressed interest in expanding Iraq's economic balance of payments and attracting German investments. The Prime Minister elaborated on the government's initiative to set up a joint Iraqi-German fund aimed at financing Iraqi industrial development projects through German support.

Al-Zaidi underscored the government's dedication to eradicating corruption and transforming Iraq into an appealing investment destination to diversify its economic resources. He reiterated Germany's role as a vital economic ally that continually supports Iraq.

Chancellor Merz reciprocated by expressing Germany's eagerness to bolster cooperation with Iraq across multiple sectors. He formally invited Prime Minister al-Zaidi to visit Germany, reinforcing Germany's backing of Iraq's pursuit of economic and financial reforms. Additionally, Merz conveyed the readiness of German enterprises to invest in Iraq.
