Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi announced the continuation of efforts to reconstitute the Supreme Council for Women. In a speech at the Islamic Day Conference on Combating Violence Against Women, al-Zaidi emphasized the government’s dedication to recognizing the role of women in comprehensive development and their contribution to confronting the challenges faced by all Iraqis, particularly during the fight against ISIS.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Zaidi highlighted the historical significance of Abdul Aziz al-Hakim’s efforts, which paved the way for the official celebration of Iraqi women. He expressed gratitude to Ammar al-Hakim, head of the National Wisdom Movement, for continuing this legacy and bringing the annual event to its eighteenth session.

Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of creating a safe environment for women through deterrent measures and legislation that safeguards their rights. He underscored the necessity of enhancing women’s scientific and intellectual capabilities and enabling them to assume leadership positions across all branches of the constitutional state. The Prime Minister called for a cultural shift towards respecting women’s rights and ensuring they are protected from assault and extortion.
