Tel Aviv: Israeli media reported today that American Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems have been involved in intercepting Iranian missiles targeting Israel. This marks the first time that such systems have been deployed in this capacity.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the involvement of American systems comes despite previous announcements by the Administration of US President Donald Trump, which stated that the United States did not plan to become actively involved in conflicts between Israel and Iran unless there were direct threats to American citizens.
US forces, however, appear to be preparing for potential escalation in the region. The Nimitz aircraft carrier group is currently en route to the Middle East. Additionally, 28 refueling aircraft have departed from the United States and are heading to the region, indicating a strategic positioning of resources amid rising tensions.
