Armed Standoff in Amarah Leaves Policeman Dead and Three Injured


Amarah: A clash between an armed individual and security forces in Amarah, the capital of Maysan Governorate, has tragically resulted in the death of a policeman and injuries to three others, including a civilian bystander.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Maysan Governorate Police Command reported that the incident unfolded after a man began firing indiscriminately from within his home, causing widespread panic among local residents.



The Police Command detailed that security forces quickly responded to the situation by securing the area and urging nearby civilians to maintain a safe distance. Authorities used loudspeakers in an attempt to persuade the armed individual to cease firing and surrender.



Despite these efforts, the shooter ignored the calls to stand down and continued his assault on the security forces. This resulted in three federal policemen sustaining injuries, one of whom later succumbed to his wounds. Additionally, a civilian who was passing by also sustained injuries during the incident.



The Command further revealed that security forces eventually managed to enter the residence after a brief exchange of gunfire, where they discovered the shooter deceased. The weapon used in the attack was subsequently confiscated.
