Attempted Weapons Smuggling into Baghdad Foiled by Diyala Police

Diyala: An intelligence operation in Diyala has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons into Baghdad. The Diyala Police Command announced on Tuesday the successful prevention of this illegal activity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Diyala Organized Crime Directorate, in collaboration with the Diyala Police Command, executed a precise operation based on accurate intelligence. This effort culminated in a meticulously planned ambush, leading to the arrest of two individuals caught attempting to traffic and smuggle weapons into the Baghdad Governorate.

The operation resulted in the seizure of five assorted pistols found in the suspects' possession. Initial investigations have revealed that the individuals confessed to their involvement in weapons smuggling and trafficking, having sourced the weapons from the Kurdistan Region. Legal actions have been initiated against the suspects.

The statement from the police emphasized the ongoing commitment to targeted operations aimed at dismantling organized crime networks and eliminating the sources of illegal arms trade. These efforts are crucial in enhancing security and stability, thereby ensuring the safety of the citizens.
