Baghdad: Babylon Central Prison concluded today a rehabilitation and de-extremism training course with the participation of 250 inmates as part of the “Return of a Human Being” program. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the course is part of a series of reform and rehabilitation initiatives by the Ministry of Justice. These initiatives are directed by Minister Khalid Shawani and aim to enhance the intellectual and behavioral development of inmates for positive societal reintegration.

The Director of Babil Central Prison, Abbas Nasser Shamkhi, stated that this course is the first of its kind within this year’s plan. The administration is set to implement three such courses this year to instill values of moderation and centrism, addressing behaviors that may lead to extremism, and fostering responsibility and discipline among inmates. The program includes components focused on correcting misconceptions, rejecting violence, promoting tolerance, and preparing inmates for a positive return to society.

Additionally, the Director of Media at the Ministry of Justice, Murad Al-Saadi, emphasized the significance of these programs, noting that they form a crucial part of modern reform policies. Inmates who complete the rehabilitation phases will also participate in vocational workshops to gain practical skills for future opportunities post-incarceration.
