Baghdad International Airport Temporarily Closed Due to Technical Malfunction

Baghdad: The Ministry of Transport announced today the temporary closure of Baghdad International Airport due to an “emergency technical malfunction that necessitated immediate precautionary measures.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ministry Spokesman Maitham al-Safi stated in a press release that the airport is expected to reopen within the next few hours, following the completion of maintenance work and final technical inspections. The temporary closure was prompted by an emergency technical malfunction, requiring immediate precautionary measures aligned with international safety standards.

Al-Safi clarified that technical teams promptly initiated diagnostic and maintenance procedures, emphasizing adherence to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) protocols, with safety being the primary focus of air operations.

Addressing circulating rumors, the Spokesperson refuted claims of security issues, labeling them as “completely unfounded.” He encouraged media outlets and the public to rely on official sources to prevent misinformation. Al-Safi reassured that the airport would reopen shortly after necessary checks, extending an official apology to passengers and reaffirming a commitment to infrastructure improvements.
