Baghdad: The Baghdad/Karkh Court of Appeal issued two arrest and search warrants on Sunday for former Labour Minister Ahmed al-Asadi. The court's decision marks a significant development in ongoing legal proceedings concerning alleged misconduct during al-Asadi's tenure as minister.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the warrants, which were made available to the media, authorize judicial enforcement officers and police personnel to arrest Ahmed Jasim Saber al-Asadi. The charges against him pertain to allegedly profiting directly from contracts and works under his jurisdiction as the minister of labour and social affairs. These allegations include facilitating contracts that breached legal protocols to secure personal benefits and advantages for others.

The alleged infractions are said to be punishable under Article 319 of Iraq's Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, as amended. This legal provision outlines the consequences for public officials found guilty of such offenses, underscoring the seriousness of the charges facing al-Asadi. The issuance of these warrants indicates a proactive approach by Iraqi judicial authorities to address purported corruption within governmental ranks.
