Baghdad Operations Command Arrests Gang Specializing in Shop Robberies


Baghdad: Baghdad Operations Command forces arrested a gang specializing in “shop robberies” and two others for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a residential building. The Command said in a statement: ‘The formations of the (1st) Federal Police Division and the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command, with the support of intelligence agencies and services, continued their preemptive regional search and inspection operations, during which they were able to arrest a number of wanted persons, including a gang specialized in “shop robbery” consisting of three people, in their possession of a pistol, scissors, and drug paraphernalia, and two others who threw a Molotov cocktail at a residential building due to a tribal dispute, and other accused of crimes (threatening, parties to armed quarrels) within the areas of (New Baghdad, Al-Kamaliya, Al-Zafaraniya, Al-Arifiya, Al-Tasnee_Al-Madain) in the vicinity of Al-Rusafa. The accused and the seized items were handed over to the competent authorities to complete legal procedures ag
ainst them.’



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the arrest operation highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain security and order in Baghdad. The authorities have intensified their regional search and inspection operations, particularly focusing on preemptive measures to curb criminal activities. The operation was facilitated by strategic cooperation between various law enforcement divisions and intelligence agencies.



The gang members were apprehended with a pistol, scissors, and drug paraphernalia, indicating their readiness to commit crimes and possibly under the influence of narcotics. In a related incident, two individuals were arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a residential building, an act reportedly linked to a tribal dispute. The suspects, along with the confiscated items, have been handed over to the competent authorities for further legal procedures.



The arrests occurred in several neighborhoods, including New Baghdad, Al-Kamaliya, Al-Zafaraniya, Al-Arifiya, and Al-Tasnee_Al-Madain, all located within the Al-Rusafa area. This operation is part of a broader initiative to address crimes such as threatening behavior and involvement in armed quarrels, which have been a concern for residents in these regions.
