Bahrain Launches First Satellite into Space


Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain witnessed the launch of its first satellite, “Al-Mundhir,” which was entirely designed and developed within its territory. The satellite was launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in the United States, marking a significant milestone for Bahrain’s space ambitions.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the National Space Science Agency in Bahrain announced that “Al-Mundhir” is the first Bahraini satellite to be fully developed locally. The satellite aims to consolidate satellite technologies and enhance national capabilities in the space field. It is notable for being the first in the region to employ artificial intelligence techniques to analyze satellite images on board a satellite of this size.



In this context, Engineer Yousef Al-Qattan, Space Engineer and Safety, Integration, and Testing Officer for the Al-Mundhir satellite, explained that the team succeeded in overcoming the challenges of developing the satellite through joint efforts. He noted that the satellite’s systems underwent rigorous testing to ensure successful launch and operation.
