Basra Council and Turkish Consul Discuss Water Issue and Economic Cooperation


Basra: Deputy Chairman of the Basra Provincial Council, Osama Abdul-Ridha Al-Saad, held discussions with the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Basra, Umut Lutfi Ozturk, and his delegation, focusing on water issues and enhancing economic cooperation between Iraq and Turkey.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting tackled several shared concerns, primarily the water issue and the reduced water releases from Turkey. Discussions also explored potential avenues for expanding economic and investment cooperation to benefit both nations.



Al-Saad highlighted that these discussions mark a crucial step toward reinforcing mutual understandings and strengthening bilateral relations. He urged the Consul to advocate within his government for increased water releases and equitable distribution of water resources.



Consul Ozturk reiterated Turkey’s commitment to bolstering relations with the Basra Provincial Council. He emphasized efforts to develop collaborative areas to enhance coordination and mutual support on key issues.
