Basra: The First Deputy Governor of Basra, Engineer Zaid Al-Imara, led a crucial meeting of the technical committee assigned to investigate the recent ammonia gas leak incident at the fertilizer plant in Basra. Appointed by the Governor of Basra, Engineer Asaad Al-Eidani, the committee is tasked with examining the circumstances of the accident and determining its causes.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing the current progress of the investigation and the technical procedures implemented so far. The committee stressed the importance of completing its work promptly and submitting findings and recommendations to the appropriate authorities. The aim is to identify the root causes of the accident and address any deficiencies that may have contributed to the incident.

The ammonia gas leak prompted the evacuation of workers to ensure their safety. Civil Defense teams successfully rescued 10 employees from the plant’s facilities. Tragically, the bodies of two workers who succumbed to the accident were recovered. Additionally, approximately 50 individuals suffering from asphyxiation were treated and immediately transported to receive necessary medical care.
