Basra: Protecting the Grand Faw Port is a major national responsibility and of strategic importance in supporting the Iraqi economy. The Commander of Basra Operations, Major General Atheer Hamza Jassim, conducted a field visit to the Al-Faw district, where he inspected the headquarters of the 2nd Regiment of the Operations Command’s Commando Brigade. He reviewed the regiment’s readiness and preparedness to carry out its assigned duties within its area of responsibility.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commander met with representatives of the security agencies and departments operating in the district, discussing the overall security situation and mechanisms for enhancing coordination, information exchange, and unified efforts. This aims to contribute to maintaining security and protecting vital facilities and economic and strategic projects in the region.

The visit included an inspection of the Grand Faw Port project, the breakwater, and the submerged tunnel. He reviewed the security measures implemented to protect these important sites, emphasizing the need to raise the level of vigilance and readiness, secure the perimeter of the projects and work routes, and prevent any activity that could affect their security or progress.

The operations commander emphasized that protecting the Grand Faw Port and its associated projects is a major national responsibility, given their strategic importance in supporting the Iraqi economy and enhancing Basra’s position as Iraq’s maritime and economic gateway. He directed the continuation of field coordination among all security units and agencies, and the execution of duties with high professionalism and discipline.
