AMMAN: U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has postponed his planned visit to Jordan, opting for a phone call with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to discuss the escalating tensions in the region. Safadi emphasized that Israel's actions are unjustified and are exacerbating regional instability. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Blinken reached out to Safadi on Tuesday evening to deliberate over the volatile situation unfolding in the region. Safadi articulated the urgent need for action to halt the escalation, particularly condemning what he termed as "Israeli aggression" in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank. He highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, criticizing Israel for preventing the entry of essential food and medicine, which he described as a violation of international and humanitarian laws. Safadi cautioned that Israel's continued aggression is pushing the region towards a broader conflict, threatening regional security and stability. Despite the change in travel plans, Blinken and Safadi agreed to reschedule the meeting in Amman soon. The conversation also touched upon the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. Safadi called for an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon and underscored the importance of fully implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to maintain peace between Hezbollah and Israel since the 2006 conflict. In related developments, Safadi is set to travel to Paris to attend an international ministerial conference dedicated to supporting Lebanon and preserving its sovereignty. The conference, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, will convene on Thursday, October 24, with France advocating for a resolution in Lebanon based on the terms of Resolution 1701.
