Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that a brigadier general and a member of the Baghdad Karkh Police had been killed, while four other members of the Federal Police and Baghdad Karkh Police Commandoes were injured while carrying out their duties. The ministry noted that an urgent security and intelligence task force would be formed to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Senior Deputy Minister Hussein Al-Awadi expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the officers. He emphasized that the deaths and injuries occurred during a campaign to remove violations in Baghdad’s Al-Dora area. Al-Awadi acknowledged the sacrifice made by the Ministry of Interior personnel in the line of duty and highlighted the importance of their role in enforcing the law and maintaining public order.
Al-Awadi extended condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased officers and their colleagues, wishing for divine mercy for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured. He also assured that an urgent task force has been established to investigate the incident thoroughly, with the goal of identifying and arresting those responsible, who will then face judicial proceedings.
He concluded by affirming the ministry’s commitment to continue its duties, uphold the law, and ensure the protection of citizens and both public and private property.
