CBI’s Governor Affirms Support for International Investment in Iraq, Including American Entities


Baghdad: The Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq, confirmed that the Central Bank provides the necessary support to international companies wishing to invest in Iraq, including American companies and banks.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Central Bank of Iraq stated in a statement that Governor Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq met with the Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce, Steve Lutes, and the President of the American-Iraqi Business Council, along with their accompanying delegation, in Baghdad. The meeting focused on strengthening banking and economic relations between Iraq and the United States, with an upcoming visit of the Central Bank of Iraq delegation to Washington planned for next April. During this visit, they will meet with the American Chamber of Commerce and American companies.



The statement revealed that discussions included the interests of American companies in investing in Iraq’s energy, infrastructure, and modern technology sectors. Additionally, the meeting addressed Iraq’s current security stability and how it positively impacts investment opportunities. Both parties also explored mechanisms for international trade and Iraq’s transition to fully operating in foreign transfers through correspondent banks.



Governor Al-Alaq emphasized that the Central Bank of Iraq is committed to supporting economic growth in the country. He reiterated the Central Bank’s readiness to provide the necessary assistance to international companies, including American companies and banks, that are keen to invest in Iraq. He highlighted the importance of diversifying investment sectors to ensure sustainable economic development.
