Communications: Linking Oil Derivatives Transport Tankers to the Electronic Tracking System

Baghdad: The Ministry of Communications announced on Wednesday the installation of GPS tracking systems on oil tankers. In a statement, the ministry said that it had completed the installation of GPS tracking systems on all oil tankers, both government and private, through the Al-Salam General Company.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the system aims to reduce oil and petroleum product smuggling and tighten control over its transport throughout Iraq, thereby enhancing the efficiency and quality of oil transport management across the country. The project is part of strengthening oversight of tanker movement and ensuring accurate tracking of their routes, enabling control over manipulation and smuggling, and supporting the state’s efforts to protect national wealth. This will be achieved by equipping and installing systems on approximately 40,000 vehicles in various governorates, as part of a comprehensive plan to regulate the movement and distribution of petroleum products.
