Baghdad: Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad said on Monday that measures were being taken to curb companies illegally buying and selling internet services.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Sanad highlighted that more than one company is involved in corruption by selling internet services outside the approved regulations. These companies are combining internet services for resale and purchasing internet capacity illegally. Unlawful invoices have also been discovered in the process.
Sanad mentioned that the Karkh Investigative Judge had informed the ministry about the need to assess the value of the violations. This has led the ministry to form a committee tasked with calculating the amount involved in these unlawful activities.
He noted that the total amount involved is in the billions, although the exact value remains unknown until the investigation concludes. So far, two companies have been identified for illegally combining, selling, and buying internet services, along with presenting forged invoices.
