Baghdad: Participants in an international conference of non-governmental organizations, concluding their meeting in the Turkish capital Ankara last night, called for the formation of a strategic alliance between Russia, China, Turkey, and Iran to lay the foundation for a new international security system.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conference statement, issued by representatives of 17 countries, emphasized the necessity of such an alliance under the current global circumstances. The statement highlighted that a coalition between Turkey, Russia, China, and Iran could effectively guarantee global security.

The conference participants attributed the actions of the United States and Israel, alongside the ongoing situations in Iran, Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, and Lebanon, as primary sources of potential large-scale military conflict. They criticized NATO, stating that it no longer serves global security interests, and advocated for its dissolution rather than reformation.

The proposed alliance between the four nations is seen as a potential deterrent to escalating international conflicts and a means to establish a broader international security system, particularly benefiting countries in the Global South. The participants believe that such an alliance could prevent conditions that might lead to a new world war.

The two-day conference gathered political experts, academics, and representatives from non-governmental organizations across various countries, including Russia, Turkey, China, Iran, the United States, and several European and Asian nations, as well as representatives from the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
