Baghdad: An investigation into the detained Deputy Oil Minister for Distribution Affairs, Ali Maarej Suwaij al-Bahadli, has led to the seizure of $11 million in cash, 4 billion Iraqi dinars ($3.1 million), and several real estate assets.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) announced that preliminary investigations conducted by the investigating judge at the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption have uncovered these funds and properties during the probe into al-Bahadli, who remains in detention.
The statement from the SJC indicated that the judge overseeing the case confirmed the investigation is still ongoing. The case highlights a significant corruption scandal within the Ministry of Oil, drawing attention to the financial misconduct and the assets involved.
