Council of Ministers Approves Key Recommendations for Water Monitoring in Central and Southern Governorates

Baghdad: The Council of Ministers has given the green light to a series of recommendations aimed at enhancing the monitoring of the water situation in the central and southern governorates. This significant move includes directives for the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities to take decisive actions to address water resource management.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture has been instructed not to renew licenses for mud lakes for fish, effective from November 21, 2025. This measure is coupled with a mandatory shift towards closed-system fish farming, aiming to better manage and conserve water resources in the affected regions.

In addition, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities has initiated a comprehensive campaign to repair existing cracks and leaks in both main and secondary water pipelines. This effort is crucial to ensure the efficient transportation of water across all governorates, thereby addressing potential water wastage and enhancing the overall sustainability of water resources in the region.
