Baghdad: The Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) announced today the arrest of 11 terrorists in the regions of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, and Sulaymaniyah.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the CTS revealed in a statement that their forces conducted a series of operations as part of ongoing national efforts to track down remnants of ISIS. These operations led to the capture of 11 terrorist elements and the clearance and destruction of several tunnels and caves across different areas.
The statement detailed that five terrorists were detained in Nineveh Governorate and four more in various locations within Kirkuk Governorate. It also highlighted the collaboration with the Kurdistan Region Asayish Operations Directorate, which resulted in the arrest of one suspect in Sulaymaniyah Governorate and another in Salah al-Din Governorate.
Further, the statement described the destruction of 10 hideouts in Nineveh Governorate, in addition to three tunnels and one cave with explosive materials, supported by the aviation of the heroic army. The CTS, alongside the Kurdistan Region Asayish Operations Directorate, also executed multiple tasks including searching and clearing 13 hideouts, destroying three tunnels, and neutralizing landmines and explosive devices in Salah al-Din Governorate.
In Kirkuk, coordinated efforts with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service led to the search of 10 hideouts, clearance of several buildings and three tunnels, and the destruction of a rock hideout in Diyala Governorate.
The CTS emphasized that these operations were conducted under judicial orders from the Iraqi judiciary, which supports the security services by issuing arrest warrants against terrorist remnants threatening the safety and stability of citizens.
