Baghdad: The Counter-Terrorism Service has issued a warning to citizens, urging them not to engage with individuals claiming to represent the service or act on its behalf without proper verification through official channels.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the service highlighted concerns about individuals impersonating its members or falsely claiming to work for the organization. These impersonators are reportedly exploiting the service’s name and official status to pursue personal gain or engage in illegal activities. The statement emphasizes that legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty of such impersonation or misuse of the service’s name, as per the law.

The Counter-Terrorism Service strongly advised citizens to avoid dealing with anyone purporting to represent the service outside official channels. They warned against providing personal information, money, or acceding to any requests made in the service’s name without verifying the identity of the requester. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity by contacting the service through its hotline at 454 or via its verified official social media platforms.
