Basra: A cultural evening at the Basra branch of the Journalists Syndicate revived the memory of the “work song” and its social significance. The event, organized by the Dar Al-Basra Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the syndicate branch, took place on Monday under the title “The Song of Work.” It was attended by a select group of intellectuals, writers, and media professionals.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the evening featured academics Dr. Nasser Hashem Badan and Dr. Mushtaq Eidan, who explored the theme of work-related songs as part of human and social memory. They highlighted the images and memories these songs hold, reflecting the lives of workers and the stages of societal transformation.

The discussion was moderated by short story writer Hazem Al-Ali, allowing attendees to offer comments and participate in the dialogue. This broadened the discussion on the importance of preserving and documenting the cultural memory associated with work and humanity.

Sadiq Al-Ali, head of the Basra branch of the Journalists Syndicate, emphasized the branch’s commitment to supporting events and activities organized by various institutions, organizations, and unions in the province. He noted that this reflects the journalistic community’s presence and its active role in the cultural and social landscape, in addition to fulfilling their media mission.

At the end of the evening, Dr. Mushtaq Eidan and Dr. Nasser Hashem Badan were honored in recognition of their participation and contribution to enriching the cultural event.
