Umm Qasr:Baghdad The General Authority of Customs has announced the successful completion of transit procedures for 21 international shipments under the TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) system. These shipments have been finalized for onward sea transport via the port of Umm Qasr.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the transit of these shipments, which originated in Turkey and are destined for the United Arab Emirates, marks a significant milestone for Iraq as a strategic hub in international trade and transport. The shipments traveled across Iraqi territory under the TIR system, demonstrating progress in managing transit operations and enhancing the efficiency of the country’s trade corridors.
The process involved the shipments entering through the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing, transiting across Iraq, and arriving at the port of Umm Qasr. Necessary customs procedures were completed, and the shipments were loaded onto a “Ro-Ro” (roll-on/roll-off) vessel for their continued journey by sea to the United Arab Emirates, integrating both land and sea transport routes.
This achievement was made possible through the directives and oversight of the Director General of the General Authority of Customs, Thamer Qasim Dawood, along with the efforts of customs personnel and coordination with relevant authorities. This ensured that procedures were conducted efficiently while maintaining compliance with customs regulations and instructions.
