Baghdad: The General Authority of Customs announced on Sunday the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle $83,000 at Baghdad International Airport. A statement from the Authority indicated that “an attempt to smuggle $83,000 was thwarted at Baghdad International Airport,” noting that “an Iraqi national attempted to bring the money into the country without declaring it, and it was discovered during a thorough baggage inspection in the arrivals hall at Baghdad International Airport.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement clarified that “legal measures were taken against the traveler and the seized funds in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” adding that “this operation comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling attempts and protect the national economy.”
