Baghdad: The Cyber Security Directorate at the Ministry of Interior has issued a warning about suspicious electronic links circulating via messages and social media platforms. These links impersonate official or service entities, posing a significant risk to citizens.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the directorate explained in a statement that these links lead individuals to fake websites designed to steal personal and banking data or hack into accounts and devices. The methods used to deceive individuals include inquiries about traffic fines and violations, data updates, receiving payments or grants, or suspending services.

The directorate has urged citizens to avoid clicking on links from unknown sources, refrain from entering passwords, banking information, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs), and verify government services only through official websites and applications. Additionally, it advised against downloading applications or files from untrusted links.

The Cyber Security Directorate emphasized the importance of digital awareness as the first line of defense against fraud and phishing. Exercising caution when dealing with links and emails is crucial in preventing data theft and account takeovers.
