DAMASCUS: Damascus International Airport is on the verge of reopening to air traffic, as airport officials announce the completion of rehabilitation efforts. The reopening is anticipated to begin with domestic or trial flights to ensure operational readiness before resuming international services.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Anis Falouh, the Director of Damascus International Airport, confirmed the imminent reopening of the facility. Falouh emphasized that the airport will initially handle domestic flights or conduct trial operations to validate the efficiency of rehabilitated infrastructure and processes. These measures aim to ensure that all systems are functioning smoothly before the airport fully reopens to international flights.

The Damascus Airport Administration had previously announced the suspension of flights from December 23 until January 1, 2025. However, exceptions were made for flights that obtained special permission from the Civil Aviation Authority. The decision to suspend flights was part of an effort to expedite the rehabilitation process and guarantee the safety and security of future operations.
