Damascus: The Syrian Foreign Ministry has expressed its approval of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s decision to reinstate Syria’s membership after a 13-year suspension due to the actions of the Assad regime.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry released a statement emphasizing that the decision marks a significant move towards Syria’s reengagement with regional and international communities as a sovereign state. The statement highlighted Syria’s dedication to the principles of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, emphasizing justice and dignity, and expressed readiness to collaborate with the Islamic world in rebuilding Syria and strengthening regional ties based on shared values.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani attended an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah. Minister Al-Shaibani noted that the reinstatement of Syria’s membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation follows the reactivation of Syria’s seat in the Arab League and participation in an extraordinary summit in Egypt.

Syria’s membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was reinstated after 13 years of suspension. The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, expressed support for the Arab plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip and valued the initiative to discuss Syria during the session.
