Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized that the Iraqi government has prioritized women’s issues by adopting and activating relevant laws.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani expressed his congratulations to Iraqi women on International Women’s Day, highlighting their significant roles in society’s development and stability. He praised their contributions and sacrifices for the nation’s progress. The Prime Minister stated that the government has focused on enhancing women’s positions by enacting supportive legislation and ensuring their participation in leadership roles. Efforts are also underway to address unemployment, illiteracy, and support for rural and creative women in various fields.

Al-Sudani mentioned the government’s strategic planning to improve women’s realities, including the early launch of the National Strategy for Iraqi Women (2023-2030) and the second update of the National Strategy to Combat Violence Against Women and Girls (2030-2023). The establishment of the Supreme Council for Women aims to create opportunities for advancing women’s roles.

In celebration of Iraqi Women’s Day on March 3, the government announced five development projects and programs. These include the third national plan for women, security, and peace (2025-2030), a national data platform on women, a network of female peace mediators, the establishment of the Women, Security and Peace Institute, and the Pioneers of Change program for skill development in female leaders. These initiatives represent significant achievements for Iraqi women in legal, legislative, and direct support areas.
