Kathmandu: The death toll from the floods in Nepal has risen to 675 as the aftermath of the devastating natural disaster continues to unfold. The Emergency Management Authority reported on Saturday that the preliminary death toll from the floods, which swept through northern Nepal near the border with China on Wednesday, has significantly increased.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, China has reported an additional seven deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities in both countries to 682. The severity of the situation is underscored by the fact that approximately 3,000 people remain missing, with 2,426 of those individuals unaccounted for on the Nepalese side.

Experts from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, headquartered in Kathmandu, have confirmed that the floods were triggered by the collapse of sections of ice in the highlands, which led to an avalanche. This natural disaster occurred in a rugged mountainous region along the Nepalese-Chinese border, exacerbating the challenges faced by rescue and recovery efforts.
