Baghdad: German authorities announced the dismantling of a cell of far-right activists who carried out attacks against refugees and are suspected of planning attacks against members of the political left in Germany.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, following revelations by Stern magazine and RTL, Germany’s Federal Prosecutor has initiated action against a group suspected of being a far-right terrorist cell known as “Last Wave Defense.”

German police conducted a large-scale raid in the early morning hours, searching 13 locations in the states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, and Hesse, with the participation of more than 200 police officers. These raids resulted in the arrest of five teenagers and young adults.

The judicial authorities in Karlsruhe reported that the arrested individuals were planning attacks targeting refugees and people of various political orientations.

Months of journalistic investigations conducted by a joint team from Stern and RTL revealed the background of this group. Evidence was found indicating the involvement of its members in an arson attack on a cultural institution in the town of Altdobern in Brandenburg, and plans for another attack on a refugee shelter in the town of Sennwenberg in the same state. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office is based on this information.

According to prosecutors, in early January 2025, Leni M., Devin K., and Claudio S. planned to carry out an arson attack on an inhabited asylum seeker shelter in Sennwenberg. Investigations revealed that Devin K. traveled to the Czech Republic to obtain two ballistic bombs to carry out the plot.

However, the plan was never carried out. Special forces arrested two of the perpetrators before the attack could be carried out. An undercover journalist with the Stern and RTL investigative team filed a crucial report after witnessing the purchase of the bombs in the Czech Republic.

The “Last Wave Defense” is a neo-Nazi group active in several German states, with approximately 60 members at certain points. A journalist from Stern and RTL was able to infiltrate the group, enabling the team to gather compelling evidence about its activities.

Earlier, in February, police arrested a member of the group on suspicion of planning an attack on a refugee shelter.
