Diyala: A faculty member at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Diyala University has been awarded an international refereeing certificate – Level C. This achievement was granted by the Iraqi Central Speedball Federation following participation in a refereeing course conducted during the second round of the Iraqi Clubs and Institutions Speedball Championship.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Marwa Khalid Jihad, the Director of Media at the College of Physical Education, stated that the faculty member, Alaa Khalaf, successfully completed the specialized course and passed both theoretical and practical exams at the Nineveh Workers’ Sports Club. The course saw the participation of representatives from 21 Iraqi clubs and over 120 male and female athletes from various governorates.

Jihad emphasized that Khalaf’s participation in the course and his achievement are part of the college’s initiatives to enhance its academic and community contributions. By equipping the sports field with qualified referees adhering to international standards and regulations, the college aims to elevate the technical standards of local and international competitions.

She also highlighted that this certification significantly boosts the college’s academic and professional reputation. It reflects the institution’s dedication to encouraging its staff to engage in international courses and events. This is particularly relevant as the championship plays a pivotal role in selecting players for the Iraqi national speedball team, set to compete in the 37th World Championship in Egypt at the end of October.
