Egypt Intensifies Efforts to Implement Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Cairo: Egypt intensified its contacts with relevant parties on Saturday to discuss the implementation of the Cairo understandings regarding the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Cairo News Channel quoted Egyptian sources as saying that Cairo is conducting "intensive contacts" regarding the implementation of the understandings reached by mediators and Palestinian factions to finalize the agreement.

The sources added that a meeting will be held soon in Cairo, with the participation of mediators, to reaffirm the parties' commitment to implementing the agreement's provisions. They indicated that Hamas and the Palestinian factions are responding positively to the efforts of Egypt and the other mediators, stressing that the successful implementation of the agreement will pave the way for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

These Egyptian moves come after the "Peace Council" announced on Friday that an agreement had been reached on implementing the next phase of the ceasefire, and that Hamas had agreed to a detailed roadmap for its completion. No official Israeli position on the agreement had been issued by that time.
