Diyala: An Egyptian national was arrested in Diyala after police thwarted an attempt to kidnap a minor girl and steal money and gold. A force from Diyala Police successfully intervened to prevent the crime and detain the suspect.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Brigadier General Haitham al-Shammari, Director of Public Relations and Media for Diyala Police, reported that after receiving information about the kidnapping of a minor girl from an area in Baquba, the police initiated immediate search and investigation procedures. The analysis of security camera footage played a crucial role in uncovering the circumstances of the incident.
Brigadier General al-Shammari disclosed that the Egyptian national had stolen money and two gold bars from the girl’s home before luring her and transporting her to Baghdad. The Diyala Police, in collaboration with the Baghdad/Karkh Police Command, managed to arrest the suspect in Baghdad. The girl and all the stolen items were found in his possession.
The girl was subsequently returned to Diyala Governorate along with the recovered items. Legal measures are being pursued to address the incident.
