Interior Minister Highlights Need for Action on Unlicensed Weapons


Baghdad: Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari emphasized the importance of continuing to seize unlicensed weapons and facilitating their registration for citizens, noting the need to intensify awareness campaigns and ensure compliance with weapons registration.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Interior stated in a press release: “Al-Shammari chaired the first meeting of 2026 of the National Committee for Regulating and Confining Weapons to the State, in the presence of all committee members and a number of commanders. He listened to a detailed briefing on the committee’s work and the progress achieved.”



The statement highlighted that the meeting included several interventions and discussions from attendees regarding the success of the committee’s work according to established plans to strengthen security and stability and preserve public safety.



Al-Shammari stressed the need to continue working at a high pace to seize unlicensed weapons and facilitate their registration for citizens. He emphasized the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns, adhering to weapons registration, and reporting, in accordance with the regulations and procedures approved by the Ministry of Interior for weapons regulation.
