Baghdad: Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Wahib affirmed on Saturday that completing interconnection projects and addressing losses will contribute to increasing energy production and improving supply. During his appearance before the Parliamentary Energy Committee, the Minister reviewed the results of his visits to the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, highlighting the key achievements regarding the contract with General Electric and the Iranian gas file.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Wahib also pointed to the most significant challenges facing the Ministry, primarily the actual need for additional gas quantities to increase electricity supply hours, in addition to the financial obligations and debts owed by the Ministry in this regard. He explained that “the circumstances and crises in the region have contributed to delaying the completion of some procedures for electricity interconnection projects with neighboring countries,” emphasizing the Ministry’s continued work on completing these projects due to their importance in supporting the national electricity grid.

The Minister also reviewed the Ministry’s plan for the current and upcoming years, stressing that completing electricity interconnection projects with neighboring countries, along with addressing losses in the electricity network, will contribute to increasing energy production rates and improving supply hours in the coming period.
