Madrid: Emirati candidate, Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais, has been elected as the Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization for the term spanning 2026 to 2029. This landmark achievement marks her as the first woman to hold this esteemed position since the organization's inception in 1975.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the announcement of her victory was made during the elections held at the organization's headquarters in Madrid, Spain. The election witnessed the participation of 35 member states, highlighting the significance of the event on a global scale.

Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais expressed her pride and honor upon being chosen for this role. She remarked, "This victory represents a momentous Emirati and Arab achievement.
