Emirati Women Pioneering Writing and Media Influence, Says Aisha Sultan

Baghdad: In a dialogue session titled ‘Emirati Women in Writing and Media,’ organized by the Emirates Social Development Association, notable Emirati writer and journalist Aisha Sultan highlighted the significant strides Emirati women have made in the fields of writing and media. Sultan noted that over the past decades, women have transitioned from merely participating in these fields to actively influencing, creating content, and shaping societal awareness. This progress is largely due to the UAE’s empowerment system, which has provided women with vast opportunities for education, employment, creativity, and involvement in decision-making.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Sultan emphasized that writing has evolved beyond a means of self-expression for women, becoming a tool for questioning, discussing societal issues, and understanding social transformations. She remarked on the power of words to shape awareness and mental images, highlighting the necessity of engaging with them through knowledge, awareness, and responsibility.

Sultan also discussed the importance of content value over audience size, asserting that a writer’s or media professional’s strength is measured by the impact of their ideas and contributions to societal discourse. She stressed that creating influence requires knowledge, research tools, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of reality.

She further explained that while content production and publication have become easier, achieving real impact requires more than just dissemination. The key elements of accuracy, credibility, and quality are essential for building a sustainable media presence. Sultan emphasized that the current challenge is maintaining audience trust and providing verified content that offers genuine contributions beyond transient digital fame.

Sultan concluded by affirming that Emirati women have effectively represented their national experience through words and media, reflecting the identity, values, and aspirations of society. Their presence in the cultural and media landscape is an integral part of the national movement in the UAE, transcending mere professional or individual involvement. She added that expanded educational and employment opportunities have cultivated new generations of women capable of producing knowledge and participating in creative and media fields, thereby reinforcing women’s roles in content creation and societal discussions.
