End of International Coalition’s Mission Marks New Era for Iraq

Baghdad:According to National Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi has declared the end of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq as a pivotal moment, symbolizing the achievement of full national sovereignty. He expressed pride in the collective efforts of Iraqis, including the senior religious authority and armed forces, in confronting ISIS and defending the nation.

On October 1, 2026, the international coalition completed the withdrawal of its forces from Iraq, marking a significant milestone in Iraqi sovereignty. Al-Zaidi attributed this accomplishment to divine grace and the mobilization of Iraqis through a religious call for sufficient jihad.

Al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of weapons outside state control and adhering to constitutional obligations, with a roadmap set for completion by June 30, 2027. He stressed that decisions of war and peace should remain with constitutional authorities and ruled out any military action beyond that framework.

The government plans to disarm non-Iraqi armed groups on Iraqi soil to ensure national security and strengthen border control. Al-Zaidi reiterated Iraq’s commitment to preventing its territory from being used for actions threatening neighboring countries’ security, while rejecting any foreign attacks against Iraq.

Efforts to support security institutions include acquiring a comprehensive air-defense system to enhance air sovereignty. Legislation will also be introduced to integrate the Popular Mobilization Forces into the national security structure under the Armed Forces’ command.

As Iraq moves beyond a history of wars and terrorism, Al-Zaidi highlighted a focus on national sovereignty, civil peace, and prosperity. The government aims to improve living conditions, provide essential services, and build a stable future, fostering balanced international relations based on mutual respect.
